This step is all about identifying not only the skills that you are good at but also the skills that you enjoy. I call these your favorite skills. It also about spending time looking at your motivations and interests. Career interests are the most important of the 3 factors because interests are a part of our core and are stable and they stay with you through your lifetime. The definition of an interest is something that is deeply held that you absolutely connect with – you want to learn more about topics. An example of this is if you really love analysis or new technology. These stay with you throughout your lifetime. Motivations can change over your lifetime and what motivates you now may be different in five years so if you haven’t thought about this lately, you must if you want to be fulfilled. Are you motivated by flexibility, autonomy, helping people, money, leadership, teamwork? What makes you work hard?

It’s also about imagining your ideal work day and ideal work environment. This step also identifies if you have an entrepreneur personality and if starting a business could be in your future. I never knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur until I took this entrepreneur quiz that we provide and realized I did have the personality to become an entrepreneur. So many doors open when you take this time for self-reflection.
